Interim Helps Children with Special Needs Get Back to School

SUNRISE, FL — August 10, 2015 - A new school year can mean a new grade, new teachers, new goals, and maybe even a new school.   For many children, it’s part of their annual routine.  But for some children going to school is one of their most important accomplishments.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) ensures that all children with disabilities are entitled to a free appropriate public education to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living,” said Kathleen Gilmartin, President and CEO of Interim HealthCare, Inc.  “Nothing brings us closer to our mission of improving people’s lives than our ability to care for special needs children so they can go to school and join other children in a learning environment.”

Interim HealthCare, a national franchise leader in providing home health care, personal care and support and health care staffing, has been meeting the one-to-one needs of special care children for decades.  “We provide assistance to schools by supplying them with health care personnel including personal care aides, certified nursing assistants and nurses (LPN and RN), commented Gilmartin.  “We also have franchisees who provide care to children with special needs including accompanying them to school.”

Interim franchisees employ their professional caregivers and they are evaluated, interviewed, oriented, trained, drug screened, referenced checked, verified current (if appropriate), HIPAA and OSHA oriented, CPR certified, and PALS certified (if appropriate).
As part of its video series, “Stories from Home”, Interim features the story of Alani.  Confined to a wheelchair and nourished via a feeding tube, little Alani is still able to attend special school four hours a day thanks to Interim care professional Heather Hansen. Heather, a Registered Nurse, arrives each morning by 7 a.m. to help get Alani ready for school - a daily regimen that includes a full physical assessment. In addition, Heather actually attends school with Alani for four hours every day. "She has a blast. We love it - we love school," Heather says. "I think it's great that I can go to school with her."
