Freezer Meals
As fall weather rolls in, we welcome a season of comfort foods consisting of rich and hearty foods. For our aging loved ones, a change to senses of taste and smell can greatly impact the appetite and desire to eat. Meal planning is quite a challenge to overcome for many who care for loved ones, especially, those who try to balance caring for someone with Dementia or Alzheimer's and their family's everyday schedule and activities. Meal preparation becomes daunting and even frustrating. Who doesn't like this, which one doesn't like that. A total stressor for many.  If you are like me, your priority is making sure everyone eats well. Whether you are there or not, everyone has to eat right?
Here is a list of a few of our favorites comfort foods, reminiscent of a time of simple pleasures and familiar meals in many families. Comfort foods may inspire and encourage your loved one to eat. A favorite meal, a family recipe or a familiar taste.. these are all so important. Maybe discuss the plan with your loved one and ask if there is anything they are wishing for. Then set aside a time that is convenient for you and enjoy the process.  I like to set a whole day aside and make several different meals all at once. I like to prepare ahead and break down into smaller portions so that our loved ones always have good meal options. Pop them out of the freezer, warm up and find comfort knowing they are eating well. Here are a few of my go to:
Chicken Pot Pie
Mac and cheese
Pot Roast
Meatballs and Sauce
Shepards Pie
Sweet Potato Casserole
Thanksgiving Rolls
Chicken Soup
Split Pea Soup
Stuffed Cabbage
Pastina in broth
Creamed chicken over noodles
Gnocci in Bolognese sauce
These are some of our family favorites. You will be able to find recipes in our blog folder titled recipes. We will begin posting shortly and continually add.  You can modify seasoning, salt and pretty much customize for any dietary need.
