Living with diabetes presents all sorts of challenges, but never more than on holidays. This is an especially big problem in America, where every major holiday is centered around food, usually of the unhealthy variety. Bigger than even Halloween with the huge amounts of sugary confections it offers, Valentine's Day is especially challenging.

Valentine’s Day is all about love and romance, and who doesn’t like that? The extra-special attention lathered upon us each February 14th evokes the warm and gooey feelings we felt when we first fell in love. For many seniors, however, this annual day of love can be just another day, or worse, a day of increased loneliness and sorrow.

While being a caregiver for a loved one comes with a multitude of responsibilities, worries and frustrations, the rewards of improving the quality of their life can bring happiness and satisfaction as well. Effective caregivers share many characteristics, they learn and grow as they become more comfortable with their care giving role and they realize that no one can be perfect all of the time.
