Five symptoms that men should never ignore
Posted: 10/7/2014 11:22 AM by
The cliché about men not going to the doctor apparently exists for a reason. In 2010 a survey by the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) found that only 57% of men had visited the doctor in the past year.
Here are five symptoms that men should not ignore:
Waist bigger than hips—Men whose waist measurement is bigger than their hips increase their risk of developing
, stroke, sleep apnea and osteoarthritis.
Unquenchable thirst—If you are always thirsty it can be a sign of diabetes. A simple blood test at the doctor can tell you.
Shortness of breath/persistent cough—Both can be caused by asthma, obesity or heart disease. It can also be a sign of
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Pain while urinating—This signals an enlarged prostate or potentially prostate cancer.
/thoughts of suicide—Depression is a serious medical condition just like diabetes or heart disease. Signs include a significant change in mood, suddenly seeing family or friends one last time or getting affairs in order.
