Can Sleeping Well Reduce Your Risk For Alzheimer's Disease?
Posted: 4/21/2014 12:00 AM by
Recently, Researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health released a study on a possible connection between lack of sleep and Alzheimer's disease. The study shows that those who get less sleep or who don’t sleep well, are more likely to have abnormal brain images – an early signal of the neurological issue.
Published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Study looked at 70 adults in their mid-70s. Researchers asked participants to answer a series of questions designed to measure their sleep patterns prior to having their brains imaged to determine the amount beta amyloid plaque. According to Doctors, beta amyloid plaque is one of the signs that a patient may have Alzheimer’s disease.
Although the lack of sleep won’t necessarily cause the development of Alzheimer’s, researchers have shown in multiple study that sleeping well helps to clean the brain of waste including Amyloid and helps your brain to function more efficiently.
It can be difficult to manage a loved one who has a degenerative neurological condition. Alzheimer’s Care at home by the Professionals at Interim HealthCare can help to improve quality of life for patients with this condition.
