                                                               COVID – 19 Success Story

Interim HealthCare wanted to share a story that tells of courage and success all in one.
               
                On March 18, 2020, while working her shift as part of our Staffing CNA team, an employee of Interim HealthCare in Colorado was feeling poorly – fatigue was creating a curious thought of what was happening during her shift.  After exercising the day before (which is a daily routine) our employee thought the fatigued feeling was related to her exercise regimen, and passed it off as normal exhaustion.  Prior to taking report for her shift on March 18th, she took her temperature and it registered at 98.6°.  At 1:30 pm the same day she took her temp again, and it registered 101.1º, leading her to contact facility's Staff Development Coordinator to report her symptoms. She was then given instructions
 to head home and seek medical advice. The following day, her primary care physician emailed her the prescription to get tested for COVID-19 at a local testing center. A few days later, the results - ‘positive’ of COVID-19 - were delivered to her.  Under the medical direction of the Health Department and in accordance with CDC rules, isolation
began for her and her husband.
              
                For the next 18 days, she was out of work taking necessary precautions and following guidelines under direction from the Health Department and her physician. She researched the expected symptoms and precautionary measures to take. While out recovering our CNA received support from Interim HealthCare’s Staffing coordinator and friend who checked on her daily as well as the Health Department which she was offered care needs, (physical and psychological). She was grateful to be shown that her care and wellbeing were being considered from both!  Her symptoms ranged from elevated flu-like feelings to severe ‘prickly pain’ and skin soreness. She assisted her recovery by taking only Tylenol and making sure she ate at least 1 meal a day despite her lack of appetite and inability to taste. Around the 13^th day of isolation and self-care, she was beginning to feel better.  
               
                After the required days of isolation and treatment, she returned to work at Interim HealthCare Staffing department and resumed her duties.  She took it upon herself to return to work at the facility where she contracted COVID -19 because she felt a sense of duty to the staff and residents she knew so well.  She credits her superior health and identifying the virus early as having helped her fight off its effects, and to also get the correct treatment. She could have chosen to be afraid and avoid the presumed source of the virus, but rather went right back in to care for those at the same facility. She will continue to provide quality care and help us understand that not everything related to COVID-19 is negative!
