Medicare & Medicaid “5 Star” Rating Comparisons
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently added a five-star rating system to its “Home Health Compare” website, which allows patients to compare home health agencies based on quality and patient satisfaction. You have many options when selecting a home health agency. We want to take this opportunity to give you some information about the new star rating system, how it works and how Interim Healthcare compares to the others.
How the Star Rating System Works
The new rating system offers a 1-star to 5-star rating based on a home health agency’s performance on nine quality measures, like whether patients received flu shots, how their pain is managed and if they are able to stay out of the hospital.
Our Rating and How We Compare to Other Agencies in Pennsylvania and Nationally
Interim HealthCare of Pittsburgh is proud to announce we have received a 4.5 Star rating.
Here’s what that means…this star rating is not quite like a hotel or restaurant star rating, which you may be familiar with, where only 4- and 5-stars are good quality. In fact, more than half of all home health agencies across the country fall in the middle with 3 or 3.5 stars.
As you can see in the chart below, in Pennsylvania most home health agencies fall within the 3 or 3.5 star range, and overall, Pennsylvania agencies are rated higher than other agencies across the country.
What This Means to You
The Home Health Compare Star Ratings are designed to empower patients like you by providing the information you need to make informed healthcare decisions. However, they are also meant to encourage providers like us to strive for even higher levels of quality. We assure you that Interim HealthCare is commited to providing the highest possible levels of care for our patients as we have been doing since 1972.
