Tips For Healthy Aging

Interim HealthCare
In today’s day and time we’re living much longer than ever before. Which is wonderful, but it also means taking care of ourselves in a way seniors haven’t had to in the past. There’s no such thing as it’s too late! It’s never too late to start living a healthier and more active lifestyle. The myth of ‘being too old’ to change just isn’t true. At Interim HealthCare of Eau Claire, WI our goal is to keep you as active, healthy and happy as can be.
Here are a few ideas and tips to keep you aging gracefully throughout your golden years
Take A Walk
If there’s only one action you can take today to improve your health and help you to steer clear of chronic disease it should be exercise. It helps to strengthen your muscles which helps in preventing injuries such as falling, lowers blood pressure and helps control weigh. An increase in muscle mass helps your body metabolize drugs more like someone who’s younger would which means it can be cleared from your system more effectively. It’s also been linked to a decreased risk of dementia. But don’t feel like you have to join a gym, even mild activities like walking around the block or gardening count.
Watch Your Weight
We now know that people who eat at least 5 cups of fruit and veggies a day have lower blood pressure, lower cardiovascular disease, lower risks of cancer they’ve a better immunity and usually a lower rate of diabetes. It’s one of the simplest things you can do to transform your aging experience.
Take Preventative Steps
You don’t have to wait for something to happen before you do something about it. Be proactive about your health and you can prevent a lot of symptoms associated with aging. Get a yearly flu shot. Get screened for Breast, Cervical, and Colon/Rectal Cancers. Keep a close on disease indicators such as high blood pressure and diabetes. While you may not be able to prevent the disease entirely you can possibly prevent the severity and disabilities that may happen from not treating the disease promptly.
Look On The Sunny Side Of Life
Staying optimistic is a big key. People who generally have a positive outlook on life have been linked to longer and healthier lives. Decreased stress levels from spiritual activities such as mediation may be partly responsible. A 2004 study of around 1,000 women and men found those who described themselves as optimistic were at a 55% lower risk of dying (over the course of the 9 year study) and a 23% lower risk of death of heart failure than those classified as pessimist.
Keep in mind, using resources such as Interim HealthCare to find someone to come in to your home and help with activities you find you no longer can do and that put you at a greater risk of injury is also a great use of preventative medicine. The thing to remember is to keep actively on top of your aging health, so you can go into your golden years with ease! Please contact us and allow us to help.
