Private Duty Nursing
What is Private Duty?
Often called non-medical or private duty, personal care services are support supplements to the nursing or healthcare services already available in a healthcare facility. It allows the individual to maintain safe and engaging lifestyles, and is often the type of assistance that allows people to avoid moving out of their homes into more expensive and less attractive alternative placements. This may include companionship services or serve as assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). This includes assistance with activities that people normally do not need help with, such as bathing, dressing, walking around and various continence issues. An individuals functioning level helps determine which ADL services are required. These services can range from small amounts of needed assistance to 24/7 care or even live-in arrangements.
When and Why Should I Use Private Support Services?
There are a variety of reasons for utilizing this service. An example of the may be when a patient or their family is wishing for more personal attention and care than the facility can provide or are wanting more support than the facility is able to provide. This type of service can be utilized in a range of settings including hospitals and nursing homes. This is not a replacement for services offered by the facility, but rather serves as a supplement that is individualized to give you maximum benefit. The specific types of services are selected and funded by the individual patient or their families. Private duty services can also be utilized as a source of relief for those who may be taking care of a loved one in the home. This service is a great way to be a supplement for the care already being given, or to give the caretaker some needed help or time off when their hands are full.
