Stories From Home

Every day, our home care heroes make a difference in the lives of patients and clients. Each one is a story waiting to be told. We would like to share some of those stories. They are about real people who may be recovering from an illness or injury, have a chronic illness such as heart failure or diabetes or maybe they just need a little extra help at home so they can remain independent. The stories are also about the very special people, our Care Professionals, who provide the caring help and support that makes a difference in the lives of our clients and their families. We’re glad to share just a few of our “Stories from Home.”

Benjamin's Story

Meeting the needs of three teenagers is tough enough but when two have a debilitating and progressive muscular disease it can be overwhelming. For mother Lori Stafford, help from Interim HealthCare’s home care aides have made a difference in keeping things as normal as possible.

Dori's Story

Being confined to a wheelchair with cerebral palsy and other developmental challenges, Dori and her family have a strong bond with their Care Professionals from Interim HealthCare. Both parents are able to continue working and have peace of mind knowing that Dori is receiving the care she needs when they can’t be there.

Althea's Story

Diagnosed with Huntington’s chorea more than six years ago, Althea has the desire and drive to work with Interim HealthCare’s physical therapist and aides to help maintain her motor skills and slowing the progression of her disease. With help from Interim, her husband Victor still is able to work a full time job and considers her caregivers part of the family.

Bernie's Story

Bernie first met Interim HealthCare Personal Care Aide, Marsha when she provided hospice services for his wife. After his wife’s passing, Bernie realized that a little extra help would go a long way toward helping him adjust to life on his own. And since Marsha was “almost family” anyway, the transition from Hospice to Personal Care services was easy.

Harriet's Story

Harriet suffered from Congestive Heart Failure. Interim provided a range of services for her – not the least of which was to be ‘the eyes and ears’ for Harriet’s doctors. Through a combination of technology and caring, Harriet’s highly skilled home care team helped improve the safety and quality of her life.

Ray's Story

WW II veteran Ray Perkins lives alone in a retirement home. And while the facility provides a range of services, they can’t do everything. Interim's Personal Care Aide (PCA), Barbara Keithcart helps ‘fill in the gaps’ with medication reminders, help around the apartment, and companionship. Since Ray lives far from members of his immediate family, those little things can really make a day-to-day difference in the quality of his life.

June's Story

A fall during a weekend boat trip landed normally active June in the hospital. After discharge from the hospital, her physician decided that physical therapy (PT) should be part of her recovery plan. Today, June works with an Interim Personal Care Aide (PCA) as well as a Physical Therapist to strengthen her muscles, speed her recovery, and improve her quality of life. Normally very active, June looks forward to getting back on the tennis courts as soon as she’s able.

Putting Life in Perspective

Home is a simple word that most of us associate with comfort, familiarity, and security. But for Debra Cain, home is - quite literally - her life. Paralyzed from the neck down since her late 20’s, but blessed with an indomitable optimism, Debbie's home has become even more important.

The Right Match

As is the case with most patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Mr. Stein’s physical condition has slowly deteriorated over time. Now in his late fifties, he finds it difficult to stand for extended periods of time, or perform certain household tasks. As his MS has advanced, Mr. Stein has been increasingly reliant on the kind of help traditionally associated with those of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Alani's Story

A miracle child, living with numerous complications including developmental delay, a heart condition, and the need to be on a feeding tube. Alani needs full time care but with the help of her Interim HealthCare Pediatric Nurse Jessica, Alani’s mother knows she doesn't have to worry because her daughter is in good hands.

Hospice in the Home

Mary faces the most difficult of challenges - helping her mother navigate the final stages of her life. Learn how Interim home hospice services helped Mary make sure that her mother’s end of life was one of comfort and dignity - surrounded by the ones she loved.

John's Story

Jenny Lambert is a Registered Nurse (RN) whose first experience with Hospice services was when her own mother became terminally ill. She was so moved by the difference that hospice made, she made a career change. Her patient John has terminal cancer, and has been receiving hospice services for some time. John is, in fact, Jenny’s second patient from the family. She provided services for John’s wife as well.
