INTERIM HEALTHCARE FRANCHISE BECOMES HOME HEALTH PROVIDER OF NEW REKOVO ART THERAPY
The Salo Organization will offer home healthcare clients exclusive access to the award-winning Agile Art software

COLUMBUS, OH (May 7, 2017) – Recovering from a major health issue just got a big assist thanks to a new partnership between Rekovo and offices owned by Salo, Inc., the largest franchisee of Interim HealthCare.

The exclusive 18-month partnership will give Interim home healthcare clients access to Rekovo’s innovative Agile Art software during their occupational and physical therapy.

“Interim will be the first home healthcare provider to offer this groundbreaking treatment to patients,” said Thomas DiMarco, president of Salo, Inc. “While this won’t replace traditional therapy, it will be an exclusive resource available to our home health clients.”

Invented at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by Research Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Motion Analysis and Recovery Laboratory, Lise Worthen-Chaudhari, Agile Art helps clients in rehab increase their range of motion and do exercises longer while creating abstract artworks. The artwork is created using motion sensors that are strapped to a client’s head, chest or limbs. Movement of the body, measured by the motion sensor, is transformed into graphic art on a computer screen using a custom software application. Movement is detected in three dimensions and plotted in two dimensions on the computer screen as an abstract painting.

Clients also can use the motion software to unveil a sentimental or personal photo hidden behind a black, white or gray screen, further incentivizing clients to make movements they may otherwise find challenging.

While clients are creating their artwork or working toward unveiling a photo, the therapist is monitoring their movement and progress. At the end of the session any artwork created can be printed or electronically shared, giving clients something that embodies all their hard work.

“Many times, when clients are in rehab they are hesitant about moving certain muscles out of fear,” said Alex Purtell, the head of growth and marketing for Rekovo. “Agile Art distracts and engages clients, eliminating these concerns.”

Based on series of clinical studies performed by Worthen-Chaudhari within The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Neurological Institute, the Agile Art technology was shown to help clients to focus, or “get in the zone”, while they perform their neuromotor therapy. Data indicated that clients who used the software performed more activity within their therapy treatments, in comparison to those who performed therapy without the software to engage them, and showed improvements in their balance.

Recently, Worthen-Chaudhari won the Early-Career Innovator of the Year Award by The Ohio State University Office of Research for this revolutionary technology.

“Interim is committed to being an innovator in providing the most advanced services in the home healthcare environment,” DiMarco said. “The goal of this partnership is to reduce hospital readmission rates, help clients improve quicker and encourage clients to work muscles they normally wouldn’t move in a traditional rehab setting.”

Interim plans to have its therapists use the software with clients who are recovering from strokes, brain or spine injuries, broken bones or surgical procedures, as well as those who need balance therapy.

Salo, Inc. plans on introducing the software to its Interim HealthCare offices in phases. However, when fully deployed across all offices, it should positively impact its population.
