Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I consider outsourcing the management and or staffing of my on-site medical clinic?
Managing a clinic or a workers compensation program in today's business environment is often complex. Outsourcing on-site medical services gives companies the ability to maintain focus on the core business. Interim Occupational Health helps companies reduce lost time, indemnity costs and improve the bottom line. Health care is Interim's only business, which means that every effort is spent reducing the stress of finding, hiring and managing staff.

What are specific goals for returning an injured worker back to work in a timely manner?
Early medical intervention, case management and safety measures are key to early return to work. Workplace safety requires an understanding of how physical factors such as repetition, force, vibration, posture, temperature and contact stress interact with the employee's risk factors of age, gender, and inherited genetic characteristics which all affect their health status. Early return to work requires a commitment from management, the treating physician, the employee and the insurance carrier. Prolonged time away from work makes recovery and return to work progressively less likely, therefore instituting measures for early return to work are an integral part of managing workers compensation costs.

Does Interim track or benchmark treatment outcomes?
Interim Occupational Health works in partnership with customers and their workers compensation carriers to track and benchmark treatment outcomes utilizing mutually agreed upon indicators for reporting. Benchmark data can include: Cost per injury, number of cases and duration of treatment, number of lost work days, number of OSHA recordables, number of restricted work cases and duration, and number of referrals to specialty providers. This information can then be used to set mutually agreed upon goals with management to target areas of intervention and to set a plan for improvement of health services.

Is there a case management system?
Interim Occupational Health utilizes case management as a process in which individualized and cost-effective health care services are identified, coordinated, implemented and evaluated on an ongoing basis for employees who are injured or ill. Case management is the combination of planned activities to ensure appropriate use of medical facilities, early and appropriate referrals, and quality care at reduced costs. An effective case management program is developed based on the needs of the company and available resources. The case management plan includes return to work procedures including establishment of restricted or modified duty jobs. The case management process utilized by Interim Occupational Health consists of four phases: Identification and referral, screening and assessment, planning and implementation and evaluation and closure.
