As individuals get older, they may experience more aches and pains. However, more seniors may experience discomfort due to arthritis. This can cause joints to become stiff or to swell.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reported that the number of individuals affected by arthritis has risen by 20 percent in the past two decades. Individuals who are also suffering from diabetes, along with other diseases like obesity, are more likely to have arthritis. Statistics also show that women have this disease in higher numbers than men.
The American College of Rheumatology found that recreational activities, like swimming, can benefit individuals without overloading affected joints. For those experiencing more severe joint pain, therapeutic exercises are more advisable.
