Do you prefer drink tea or coffee? If you favor the latter, a new study from the University of Singapore may persuade you to add a cup of tea to your daily routine to fight Alzheimer's.
Researchers found that mental decline slowed for individuals over 55 when they consumed black, green or oolong tea daily. The effects were the same, regardless of the type of tea. The protective benefits of tea came from using tea leaves, which contain antioxidants like catechins and theaflavins. According to SFGate, catechins can stabilize free radicals, which if left unchecked can raise risks for multiple diseases.
Results showed that individuals with a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's saw an 86 percent drop in cognitive impairment. This could help researchers in their fight against this disease.
