Alzheimer's currently affects an estimated five million Americans and the number is expected to reach nearly 15 million by mid-century. Many of those affected remain in their homes and receive assistance by either family members or home care paraprofessionals.
Interim has joined the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) to develop "A Time to Care," a new training program specifically geared toward providing care for Alzheimer's and dementia suffers in a home setting. The AFA, based in New York, is a national, nonprofit organization that focuses on care for people with Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses, and their families. AFA is made up of hundreds of member organizations that provide hands-on programs to meet the educational, emotional, practical and social needs of families. AFA's services include a toll-free hotline, counseling, educational materials, local resources, and a free caregiver magazine.
