Jean McGlone passed away in October 2000, Lisha Robinson in December 2000 and Brenda Burgess in March 2001. This is a story that was written by Jean McGlone sometime before her passing, about one of her clients: "The most heart felt experience that I have had while doing home health care of people who need you and really want you. Seeing their faces, their smiles when you come to take care of them and the can count on you being there for them. Basically just being there for them, making their day a little brighter for them when you know no one else is around. Back in August of 1994 I lost my job of 22 years and then my dad in December of 1994. Then in February of 1995 I ran into a friend of more than 20 years. She told me to go to Interim. Little did I know after 72 hours of classwork and some training how rewarding the next five years of my life would be. Went out into the field in March. Taking care of people and doing things for them that they couldn't do for themselves. The feeling of knowing that your client does not want anyone else when you can't come or if you are off is one of the great pleasures." We would like to thank each and every field staff member here at Interim for your hard work and the wonderful job that each and every one of you do everyday. Remember that you are appreciated!! A Fishy Story? Two major studies say that eating fish can save your life. Eating fish at least twice a week could reduce the risk of heart disease by more than 30%, according to a study published in the April 11 New England Journal of Medicine. One study found that men without heart disease were 81% less likely to die later of sudden cardiac arrest, despite age or smoking habits, if they had high blood levels of omega-3 acids found in oily, fatty fish. Another study in the April 10 Journal of the American Medical Association said that women who eat fish fice times a week cut their risk of dying later from a heart attack by half. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel and herring, appear to lower cholesterol and prevent dangerous blood clots and irregular heart rhythms that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. |
