Interim HealthCare Franchisees Celebrate Nursing Assistants Week

SUNRISE, FL — June 1, 2016 - Interim HealthCare franchise offices across the country will join together to celebrate Annual National Nursing Assistants Week June 9-16, 2016.  Interim, a leader in home care, hospice and health care staffing, has more than 300 independently owned franchise locations in 43 states that provide nursing, therapy and non-medical home care, hospice and healthcare staffing services. Interim's independent franchisees employ 40,000 healthcare workers and provide nurses, therapists, aides and other health care personnel to approximately 50,000 people annually.

“Many changes are occurring in health care today,” said Jennifer Ballard, Chief Clinical Officer of Interim HealthCare, Inc. “But one thing has not changed.  Nursing Assistants play a vital role in the lives of people in their care and our franchisees are incredibly grateful for their dedication and commitment.”

Nursing assistants work in individual homes, assisted living communities, hospice, hospitals, nursing homes, correctional institutions, and other long-term care settings.  They help individuals of all ages perform the most basic daily tasks of everyday living. They work under a nurse's supervision, and since they have extensive personal contact with each individual, they play a key role in keeping the nurse up to date on vital information about the individual’s conditions.

Nursing assistants provide hands-on supportive care for such tasks as:  dressing, bathing and skin care.  They can also take vital signs like temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respirations.  Nursing assistants help people walk, eat their meals, bathe, or turn and reposition those who are bedridden.  They can also help individuals complete range of motion exercises prescribed by a physical therapist, or perform bowel and bladder care, and simple wound care, when directed by a Registered Nurse.

All states require nursing assistants who work in nursing homes to pass a comprehensive exam, be state-approved and be listed on the state registry. Nursing assistants may be certified (CNA), registered (RNA), licensed (LNA) or state tested and approved (STNA).

“Nursing Assistants are really the front line in health care today,” commented Ballard.  “They make a lasting impression that helps form a positive relationship that promotes healing.  We join our franchisees in taking this opportunity to recognize their important contributions.”
