Interim HealthCare Inc. Names Two Nurses for Top Honors

SUNRISE, FL, May 13, 2013- Interim HealthCare, the nation's leading home care, hospice and healthcare staffing franchise, announced today that both Sarah Proffit, RN, OT of Morgantown, WV and Elaine Masley, RN of Hartford, CT will be recognized as the 2013 Interim HealthCare Nurse of The Year.

In celebration of National Nurses Week, which is annually May 6th - May 12th, Interim HealthCare salutes all nurses and healthcare workers who provide care to their patients at over 300 franchise offices across the country. "The selection committee for this year’s program faced a big challenge in choosing among this year’s nominees," said Karen Carnes, RN, Chief Clinical Officer of Interim HealthCare, Inc. "In fact, the challenge was so difficult that the selection committee was unable to come to consensus between two incredible nurses who provide sincere compassion and consistent performance that represent the best of nursing.” Carnes continued.

Sarah Proffitt, RN, OT of Morgantown WV
Sarah Proffitt, RN, OT, Morgantown, WV Interim HealthCare Nurse of the YearNot content with merely one healthcare professional degree, Sarah Proffit is both an RN and an OT—bringing a unique perspective and set of skills to her very fortunate patients. While managing to provide care to all kinds of patients, injection trainings, chemo administration, LVAD care, palliative care patients and Transitional Care Coordination, Sarah has also spearheaded an initiative to allow the Morgantown, WV office to be the first home care group to join the West Virginia Health Information Network thereby linking the office with local hospitals to seamlessly share patient medical information.

As a clinical manager Sarah has led her team to deliver clinical outcomes that are the highest among local competitors. Would anyone be surprised to know that Sarah’s team also contributed to a recent deficiency-free survey! Thank you, Sarah for your contributions to improving the lives of your patients and your co-workers.

Elaine Masley, RN of Hartford, CT
Starting a new hospice is a challenging time for any agency. Starting one without a permanent director can seem impossible—but not for the Hartford office. Ann Olson, President and CEO of the Interim  Hartford, CT organization, knew she had the needed leadership qualities and hospice clinical expertise in staff nurse Elaine Masley.

Elaine was asked to assume the Hospice Clinical Supervisor role during this transitional time. In spite of her preference for patient care, she put her personal preference aside, as she does time and time again for her patients, and did an amazing job as the acting Clinical Supervisor. Elaine provides empathy and caring for her co-workers as well as her hospice patients. She lends an ear or has a quiet conversation with those who may need some support. She frequently leaves employees messages of encouragement or for a job well done. Elaine also is the first to celebrate special occasions for her coworkers.  We are grateful to have Elaine as an inspiration and role model.

Join us in congratulating all the nominees and recognizing their tireless professionalism and clinical competence - underscoring not only their contributions made to individual patients’ lives but to communities and to our nation’s health care system.  All of these individuals are the nursing stars in our Interim HealthCare network.

This is the 13th year that Interim HealthCare has run this contest. To be considered as a nominee for Nurse of the Year, applicants must be an employee of Interim HealthCare for more than one year, provide exemplary nursing service to their patients and demonstrate qualities of excellence and caring. The winners will receive a check in the amount of $500 and an award certificate and National recognition.
