Patients coping with cancer know that medicine can make a difference in their quality of life and their treatment. However, more research shows that incorporating healthy foods into their diet can make a difference with lowering the risk of colon cancer.
Researchers from the American Society of Clinical Oncology studied over 800 patients with late stage colon cancer. Patients who ate 2 ounces of tree nuts - which include hazelnuts, cashews, almonds and walnuts - per week saw a 42 percent lower risk of their cancer returning and nearly 60 percent lower chance of death.
